Physical Education
Physical Education at Goddard Park Primary School promotes an awareness of how we can develop and maintain a healthy lifestyle by keeping ourselves healthy and active. We promote a curriculum where children inspire to become athletes and are curious about how they can improve their wellbeing.
Children participate in up to two hours of physical exercise including the physical education lessons, wake and shakes and other curricular and extra-curricular activities.
As a school we follow the champions rising stars scheme of work for Key Stages 1 and 2 which provides opportunities to compete in sport and other activities to build skills, stamina and character and help to embed values such as fairness and respect. The children will also learn how to manipulate and control their bodies in all the gymnastics, dance, games and athletics taught through our curriculum. It is important that children learn how to carry out fundamental movements that are essential to becoming athlete.
Swimming
By the end of year 6 pupils should be taught to:
- swim competently, confidently and proficiently over a distance of at least 25 metres
- use a range of strokes effectively [for example, front crawl, backstroke and breaststroke]
- perform safe self-rescue in different water-based situations
Goddard Park Primary School will provide an intense course for your child in year 3. If they do not meet the requirements, then they will have a top up course in year 6.
